The addition of Henry “Genka” Kõrvits, a beloved Estonian musician and MMA fan, to the board of Evecon Raju is set to help the league reach new audiences and expand the sport’s appeal, said Evecon Raju CEO Ott Tõnissaar.
Following a recent change in ownership, the league aims to develop and popularize the sport not only in Estonia but also internationally. According to the organizers, Genka’s fame and passion for the sport will significantly boost public interest in the events.
“Often, when organizing a cool event, people reach out to celebrities to propose collaboration. This time, it happened the other way around – when I saw the news about Raju getting a boost, I contacted the organizers myself. I said, ‘Guys, you’re doing something awesome, and I want to help,’” said Henry Kõrvits, new board member of Evecon Raju OÜ.
“Although I’m no longer a big sportsman myself, I still carry the sports bug. Besides basketball, I’m also a huge MMA fan. I joined the board because I want to promote Estonian sports internationally and help grow the local MMA culture. Compared to many other sports, MMA is very accessible – all you need is a pair of shorts,” added Kõrvits.
According to Ott Tõnissaar, the lead organizer of the competition and the league’s driving force throughout its history, the collaboration with one of Estonia’s cultural icons will be exciting and beneficial. “The expectations are naturally high, but Henry brings a wealth of experience from organizing the Estonian Hip Hop Festival and managing Radio 2 and Tallinnfilm. I believe that with his help, we can better spread our message to the masses and bring even more great people into the MMA community,” added Tõnissaar.
