The doping control of Rodrigo Vargas, who lost the main event at Evecon RAJU 20, returned a positive result. The athletes were tested by the Estonian Anti-Doping and Sports Ethics Foundation (EADSE).
Rodrigo Vargas’s sample contained three substances on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List: the anabolic steroids mesterolone and oxandrolone, and the metabolic modulator meldonium. All three are prohibited both in and out of competition. The case is being handled by EADSE, and the athlete has the right to provide an explanation until 16 November.
“Beyond fairness and equal opportunities, clean sport in combat sports is also a matter of safety. If one athlete has gained an advantage with prohibited substances, it is no longer an equal fight, and it can damage their opponent’s health. The number of young MMA fighters in Estonia is growing fast, and we want to set an example for them by promoting clean sport,” said Evecon RAJU head organiser Ott Tõnissaar.
The obligation to take part in doping control applies to all RAJU athletes, professionals and amateurs alike. All bouts take place under the supervision of the Estonian MMA Federation.
The next Evecon RAJU takes place on 10 April 2027 at Tondiraba Ice Hall.

MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, is a competitive form of unarmed combat that combines the most spectacular elements of several combat sports. The aim of a mixed martial artist is either to knock the opponent out or to force a submission with a submission hold. MMA bouts are held in a special cage enclosed by mesh fencing. The eight-sided octagon arena keeps the fighters safe and gives the sporting duel a gladiatorial appeal.
Evecon Raju continues its mission of bringing international-level competition to the Estonian MMA scene and of supporting the development of athletes both in Estonia and beyond. The league’s main sponsor is the sports betting portal FenixBet.
