One of Estonia’s most well-known and experienced strikers, Markko Moisar (52-19), who has more than 70 striking fights to his name, has signed a contract with Evecon Raju. The deal brings fans a historic event – for the first time in Raju’s history, a genuine gloved kickboxing match will take place in the cage.
The European kickboxing champion’s first appearance under the new contract will take place at the Evecon Raju 20 event on October 10 at the Tondiraba Ice Hall. Never before has a striking-only match been held at a Raju fight night, but an exception is being made for the anniversary event, since Markko Moisar will get the chance to showcase his MMA skills at the following two events. Moisar’s opponent is still to be determined and will be announced soon.
“The Evecon Raju series is a new and exciting challenge for me. Getting to have a pure kickboxing match with big gloves in the Raju cage guarantees the audience a proper spectacle, because I get to show exactly what I do best. After that, I’m ready to put my development in MMA to the test. I’m stepping into the cage to put on a show and to win,” said Markko Moisar.
Moisar’s earlier experience with MMA
Although the wider public knows Moisar as a ruthless kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter, professional MMA is in fact not foreign to him. He has one professional MMA fight on record, which took place in February 2022. At the time, he faced Alexander Krupenkin, who is also known to the local audience as the opponent in Madis Mäeste’s career debut.
In that fight, Moisar predictably demonstrated his clear advantage in striking, dominating the action with strong, precise strikes. Despite the strong start, Krupenkin was ultimately able to bring his ground game to bear, catching Moisar in a straight armbar. Moisar prepared for that MMA debut in Pärnu, training closely alongside none other than Madis Mäeste.
Comment from the organizer
According to Evecon Raju’s chief organizer Ott Tõnissaar, Markko Moisar is a top name in Estonian combat sports. “Markko Moisar joining is good news for Raju and the fans, since he brings a long history in striking. We’ve never held a pure kickboxing match in Raju’s history before, and the 20th anniversary event is the right place for it. Markko’s fast, aggressive style is sure to get the crowd going. At the same time, we’re really looking forward to his next fights under MMA rules too, since he’s a man who isn’t afraid to step outside his comfort zone,” said Ott Tõnissaar.
Professional fights take a bigger share at the anniversary event
While the usual ratio of professional to amateur fights at Evecon Raju events has been 7:3, the big anniversary event will bring even more top-level sport to the audience. At the upcoming event, the ratio of professional to amateur fights is therefore as high as 8:2.
Evecon Raju 20 will take place on October 10 at the Tondiraba Ice Hall.
